Primary School Sessions

The Primary Schools Counselling Service offers therapy to children between the ages of 7-11 across all 24 Primary schools located in the borough of Torfaen and is commissioned by Torfaen County Council.

One-to-one sessions tailored to suit the needs of the child are offered to all, helping to alleviate any distress which is impacting upon their learning, behavior or relationships with others. This could be through a range of therapies that may include Play Therapy, Sand-tray Therapy and Talking Therapy.

Working in a confidential manner counsellors create an environment free from interruption and distraction and approach all clients in a non-judgemental manner. This approach encourages trust and allows clients to be more open to discussing any issues troubling them. It can also contribute in developing a sense of self, self-care, and self-belief.

Each child will be offered a maximum of 8 sessions that are inclusive of 2 meetings with parents/carers. Parents/carers are encouraged to be proactive with the client throughout the counselling process.
