Secondary School Counselling Services

Secondary School Sessions

The Secondary Schools Counselling service offers counselling to children between the ages of 11-19 across of all 6 secondary schools in Torfaen and is commissioned by Torfaen County Council.

Counselling is available to all young people who want to access it. We offer a non-judgmental space where you can talk freely about any issues or concerns you may have. This could be exam stress, anxiety, thoughts of self-harm or a number of other things which might be worrying you.

Counselling is private and confidential, meaning anything shared with the counsellor will stay between the two of you. The counsellor will not share information with teachers or family members unless they feel you or others around you are at risk. The counsellor will explain more about this when you first meet.

How to get in touch

There are numerous ways to access our service. You can speak to your form tutor, pastoral officer, head of year and they can give you a self-referral form; or  you can ask a family member to contact us on your behalf. You can also contact us privately via the referral section at the bottom of this page.

Once we have received a referral, your counsellor will get in touch with you, and as soon as they have a space, they will arrange a first session. The counsellor is based within your school, however if you would prefer to be seen away from school you can access our Out of Schools service which is located at the Cwmbran Centre for Young People, in Cwmbran town centre.

Speak in Confidence

Counselling takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.

A problem shared...

Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.

Make better, healthier new choices

Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.
